Marion Jones-Archer

​was born in the Harlem Hospital, New York City on June 3rd, 1959. She was raised by a single strong black woman where she is the second oldest out of nine children.

​​Marion was captivated and in-spired by the performances from the late Alvin Alley’s American Dance Theater of Harlem which inspired her to create a dance troupe called The Revelators.

Marion’s vocation started when she was hired at Mount Vernon Board of Ed. to teach dance at Nellie Thornton Jr. High School, now known as the Denzel Washington School of the Arts where she taught African Dance. In addition, she taught at Grimes, Graham, Parker Elementary, Edward Williams, AB Davis, Rebecca Turner, Nelson Mandela and Mount Vernon High Schools. Moreover, Marion teaches in several different districts such as Tuckahoe, Eastchester, Bedford Hill, Pound Ridge, Greenburgh, Yonkers, Bronx and Manhattan. Also, at The College of New Rochelle, known as a Agile Professor.

​Marion specializes in West African Dance and Liberian tradition. Marion is also an artist in residence for the Westchester Arts to expand her expertise to the entire County of Westchester.

​Marion is an ordained Elder at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Faith Temple. She holds a Bachelor of Theology from HUGEE Theological Institute and is married to her best friend, Trevor Archer. They reside in Yonkers, NY with their beloved son Travis.

​Marion is a two-time breast cancer survivor.  She appreciates the opportunity to thank God, and to discuss a critical program that she credits. The New York State Cancer Services Program   Early Detection Program. Marion is a very strong-willed woman who gives all of her praises to God. Ms. Archer appreciates the opportunity to thank God through dance as being one of the first to bring liturgical dance ministry to Mount Vernon 49 years ago. Neither challenge has stopped her from working with the youth. She fights for them while fighting for herself & her family.
